How to Convert MKV to MP4
MKV is a universal media container that allows watching videos in high quality. Users can open MKV files with popular players like VLC Media Player, but in certain cases opening such files appears to be impossible. In such situations, it makes sense to convert MKV files to some alternative and more usable format like MP4. This tutorial will show you how to convert MKV to MP4 with Icecream Media Converter.
Download and install the application
Firstly, you need to download the program and save the installation file on your computer. Launch this file to start installing the application. Usually, it takes approximately 30 seconds. Follow the Wizard to complete the installation and open the program to start converting MKV files.
Add MKV file
To add the first file to the program, press the “Add file” button in the upper left corner of the main window or press a similar “Add file to start converting!” button in the middle of the window.
The program will open Windows Explorer which allows you to select files from your hard drive. Press “Open” to import the file – after that, the program will bring you to the “Add file” panel where you can configure output file settings.
Tweak the conversion parameters
- Convert to. To select the type of conversion (in this case – video conversion), click on the “Video” option in this section.
- Convert by. Since the desired output file has already been defined, choose the “Format” option.
- Choose format. Click on the setting’s field to choose “MP4” from a dropdown menu.
- Choose quality. The “Best” quality is set by default, but it’s possible to change it to “Good”, “Average”, or “Bad” options – in this case, the file will be converted in a lossy way.
Start MKV to MP4 conversion
Once all the settings are tweaked, user can skip straight to MKV to MP4 conversion. If there’s no need to convert more than 1 file that has just been configured, simply press the “Convert” button in the bottom right corner in the “Add file” panel. Use “Cancel” and “Pause/Resume” buttons on the right of the progress bar to cancel or pause the process. On the completion, open the file in a containing folder (“Open folder” button in a popup window that shows up when the process is over).
Icecream Media Converter features bulk conversion mode, which means it’s possible to convert several files at the same time. If that’s what you need, click on the “Add to queue” button in the bottom right after tweaking the settings but before to the actual conversion. The file will be sent to the queue so that you could add more videos and convert them all in a batch mode. Recycle bin icon on the right of the file allows you to delete it from the list; “Clear all” button in the bottom left corner helps you delete all the files from the queue. After that, press the “Convert” button and follow the steps described earlier.
